Public invited to council candidate briefing City Administrator Jimmy Forbis will host a Gilroy City Council candidate briefing on Sept. 8 from 6-8pm. The briefing will provide information to candidates about the city’s programs and services, finances, governance and strategic outlook. A crew from Rick Slater Construction is on site Monday as a new Aptos Branch of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries is beginning to rise on the same site as the old branch. The new 12,400-square-foot branch replaces the 8,800-square-foot library that opened in 1975. The project is expected to cost $14 million and is funded by Measure S and community donors. Marilyn Ward Coll died of natural causes on August 27, 2022, at Williamstown Commons Nursing Home. She was born January 24, 1933, in Irvington, NJ. A child of Catherine Rowley and Thomas Ward, both Irish immigrants, Marilyn grew up in Bloomfield, NJ, and earned a scholarship to Barnard College. After graduating in 1954, she married John Marshall and had three children. In 1959 she became a widow and subsequently met and married Francis Coll. The Abilene Public Library board voted Monday to create a standing three-member committee to review books recommended for the library’s formal “reconsideration” process, deemed questionable by individual readers.The board also recommended that a decision on a book recommended for reconsideration, “Let’s Talk About It: The Teen’s Guide to Sex, Relationships and Being a Human,” be sent to Abilene City Manager Robert Hanna.The board also voted to recommend to Hanna that the system’s single copy of the book, which contains graphic depictions of human sexuality, be relocated from the Mall of Abilene branch of the Abilene Public Library to the downtown…
