Some 13 thousand UN soldiers are in the process of being pulled out of Mali. In a letter briefing the UN Security Council on the withdrawl, UN chief Antonio Gutteresh called the six-month process unprecedented. Mali has been in turmoil since a first military coup over a decade ago, which was followed by rebels in the north forming an Islamic State two months later. The president was replaced in another coup two years ago. FRANCE 24’s Shirli Sitbon has more.
