Ride the Semaphore Steam Train during the April school holidays.
The Semaphore to Fort Glanville Tourist Railway is a wonderful 30 minute, four kilometre return train journey. It travels along the coastline and features open carriages pulled along behind a steam engine, offering great views of the foreshore.
April School Holiday Operating Times:
- Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12 to 27 April 2025. Operating times are approximately 11am to 4pm, with trains leaving about every 45 to 60 minutes. Each 4km long return trip to Fort Glanville takes about 30 minutes.
Please note: if the Adelaide forecast temperature on the morning of operation is 33 degrees or higher, the train cannot run.
Operated by the National Railway Museum, the 2km long 457 mm gauge railway from Semaphore to Fort Glanville departs from the foot of the Semaphore jetty at the end of the popular Semaphore Road cafe strip. The train then runs parallel along the Esplanade and the sand dunes of one of Adelaide’s most popular swimming beaches, before passing through the dunes near historic Fort Glanville at Point Malcolm.

- Child | $5 (3 years to 15 years)
- Under 3 years – free
- Family | $29 (4 people incl. at least one child)
Tickets (EFTPOS only) are available from the Conductor on the train.
Please Note:
Tickets for the Semaphore and Fort Glanville Tourist Railway do not include admission to the National Railway Museum (and vice versa) and are sold exclusively from the train.
