But reports of new air strikes show just how fragile that truce between two warring generals really is. Civilian life has come to a standstill in Sudan. The country’s residents are now facing major shortages of food, water, fuel and electricity. Sudan was already heavily dependent on humanitarian aid before the violence began nearly two weeks ago. The 72-hour ceasefire brokered by the United States was already struggling to hold after the regular army launched renewed air strikes against rival paramilitary forces in the capital Khartoum late on Tuesday.
