Some 13 thousand UN soldiers are in the process of being pulled out of Mali. In a letter briefing the UN Security Council on the withdrawl, UN chief Antonio Gutteresh called the six-month process unprecedented. Mali has been in turmoil since a first military coup over a decade ago, which was followed by rebels in the north forming an Islamic State two months later.
