The Australian Space Discovery Centre aims to inspire the next generation with stories of opportunity, curiosity and technology. It offers a place for the community to discover and explore the latest innovations in space technologies. Learn about Australia’s current and future role in space at the Discovery Centre, which hosts: a Careers Information Hub showcasing rewarding and diverse career pathways in the local space industry, an operational Mission Control Centre viewable through a theatrette for live space events, industry guest speakers and opportunities to engage with space experts, and an interactive space exhibition offering immersive, hands-on experiences.

The Australian Space Discovery Centre invite all little-astronauts to join them in-centre for Space Storytime. Each session will begin with a reading of a space book followed by an activity before attendees are invited to explore the Space Gallery.
Session Duration: 30 minute storytime, with up to 90 minutes to explore the centre.

Student Cadet Rocket Adventure Program (S.C.R.A.P.) Challenge

A challenge to ignite your engineering and design creativity! Participants will design, construct and launch their own paper model rockets with the goal of achieving the greatest distance. Participants are encouraged to bring recycled materials from home to use in their rocket. For example, scrap paper, toilet rolls or paper towel rolls.

Plants in Space

As humans continue to explore space and go on longer missions, to the Moon and further to Mars, plants will come along with us. Astronauts have been nurturing space gardens on the International Space Station for decades, but we are still finding the best ways to grow plants in space. Plants in space are used for food and research, but they are also playing an important role for astronauts’ well-being and foster a connection to Earth.
What do we need for plants to thrive off-Earth? How can we produce enough food for the astronauts in this new environment and encourage sustainability?

Space Weather

Did you know that there is weather in space? And that it can effect us here on Earth? In this workshop, participants are going to take a close look at the Sun and examine the causes of space weather. They’ll discuss how radiation from the Sun causes auroras on Earth, learn to identify sunspots and coronal loops, discover how high-energy particles can disrupt satellite operations, and finally make your own Space Weather forecasts for the week ahead.
