Lit for Life Festival 2023 is brought to you by Marion Library Service, Charles Sturt Library Service, Prospect Library, Salisbury Library Service, Port Adelaide Enfield Library Service and Holdfast Bay Library Service with funding support from the Libraries Board of South Australia and the Government of South Australia.* Spark: Once Upon a Jar with Patch Theatre

What’s On:

Once Upon a Jar

A special visitor, Stephen, arrives with a suitcase full of old gifts – some mysterious jars from birthdays long past. Each jar contains a distinct smell and countless story possibilities. Children shape the narrative, bringing their far-fetched ideas to life, before joining Stephen on a treasure hunt to find the most mysterious smell of all.

This event is FREE for library members so booking will require you to enter your library card membership number.

If you don’t have a library card, please visit any SA public library to sign up with your ID – it’s also FREE!

This event has been funded by the Libraries Board of South Australia and the Government of South Australia.

Phil Cummings “In This Place” – Adelaide Symphony Orchestra

Joe loves gazing at the stars. Join the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra as they lead you through one boy’s life-changing journey.

Leaving behind the golden wheat fields, burning sunsets and dusty red creeks, Joe must face the grey city streets where bright lights steal away the brilliance of the stars he loves.

Through the wonder of music, images, songs and storytelling, you will follow Joe as he comes to learn the importance of resilience in a world that is ever-changing. With the strength of family, community and friendship, Joe will find his way.

In this newly commissioned work, award-winning South Australian author Phil Cummings draws inspiration from his own lived-experience, with moments and memories from his childhood, while local composer Glyn Lehmann creates a vivid soundscape influenced by his many years working in theatre, television and live performance.

Come and discover for yourselves what it is like…In This Place.

Grug and the Rainbow – Windmill Theatre Co

A smash hit all over the world, Grug and the Rainbow brings its exquisite puppetry and heart-warming humour back to delight audiences.

After a rainy day, Grug heads outside to see a beautiful rainbow striped across the sky. He tries to sneak up on it, climbing hills and mountains in an attempt to reach it… but it is always just out of his grasp. In a magical adaptation of Ted Prior’s beloved picture books, Grug and the Rainbow sees our grassy little friend embark on an epic adventure to bask in the colours of the illusive rainbow.

Sea of Light – Patch Theatre

Embark on a journey of light and imagination in the illuminating interactive installation by Patch Theatre. With a UV torch as your paintbrush, paint and stencil your own voyage. Steer ships that leave glowing paths of light in their wake as you sail them across the sea floor. Sea of Light brings together magical light and a gentle soundscape to create a unique adventure for the whole family.
