Hard Quiz Live – Hosted by Tom Gleeson: Adelaide Fringe 2023 Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars for professional roasting at its finest!
Review by Jo Parkinson
Strap yourselves in and prepare for an hour of absolute roasting as Tom Gleeson hosts at his comedic best. Tom’s quick wit and outrageous acting skills have the audience in stitches the whole way through.
Time to get HARD Adelaide and brush up on your specialist subjects as Tom Gleeson presents the Hard Quiz Live Tour!
Based on the popular ABC program, Hard Quiz Live is now showing in The Garden of Unearthly Delights.
Beginning with a hilarious monologue by Gold-Logie winning host Tom Gleeson, the show is not for the easily offended. Poking fun at other television networks, celebrities and shows, no one is safe!
After the monologue, it’s time to play HARD! Four pre-chosen specialist subjects are up for grabs. The night we went the subjects were Star Wars, Australian Reality TV, Flags and Taylor Swift. Any audience members who think they’ve got what it takes to answer questions in the subject (as well as putting up with Tom’s cheekiness!) can volunteer to get up on stage and play the game.
The show is formatted the same as what you see on the TV program. Tom introduces the contestants, at the same time finding any little detail to pick on them (all for laughs of course!). Then they get into the first round of answering tricky questions about their chosen subject. Behind them is a large screen that keeps score. Points are awarded for each correct guess and deducted for incorrect answers. The contestants are booted out one by one for playing ‘Too Soft’ after each round.
The final two players battle it out in a best-of-five quiz until the winner is chosen. Don’t get your hopes up of taking home the famous brass mug though, the winner takes home a regular mug as well as a merchandise pack.
The audience was treated to a musical act at the end, performed by Tom himself, which was surprisingly good!
If you’ve seen Hard Quiz Live before, you may recognise a couple of the jokes told. All in all, it was a fun, light-hearted show that was super entertaining from start to finish. The show is rated M and we recommend it to anyone who loves watching Hard Quiz or is a fan of Tom Gleeson. And if you’re not, still go along anyway and try to get up there and give some cheek back to him, he’d love it!
