Maho Magic Bar – Adelaide Fringe Review.

It’s described as ‘Part show. Part bar. All magic!’ And that’s exactly what this show is….with more than a touch of Japanese flair!
Tucked away at the bottom of the Garden you will find the Maho Magic Bar – a little venue constructed of black shipping containers artistically decorated in colourful neon lights. As you climb the stairs and enter via a screen of Japanese paper lanterns you are transported to a Tokyo bar with timber tables, bars stools and floating Cherry Blossom overhead.
You will be given a table number once you arrive at the venue and ushered inside to find your seat. Drink orders are placed with your phone via the QR code you are given on entry, which brings up the bar menu. They are hand delivered so you don’t need to leave your seat.
Each group is seated at different bars and the magicians rotate, each one performing an intimate series of magic tricks with their own unique touch. Be warned – this is an interactive experience that calls on participation from the audience! In between their sets there is entertainment at the front bar – again with audience volunteers!
The vibe is very upbeat and fun, smoke fills the air and at one point the audience is asked to stand and gather around to watch a volunteer be bamboozled in a hilarious magic trick. Comedy accompanies the magic throughout the show and nonstop action will keep you on the edge of your seat.
This is a Fringe event for all ages – however with children it is recommended to book an afternoon show. With a PG rating, the day time shows are family friendly and kids will love the personable magicians who play up to their characters brilliantly. If your kids love an interactive experience and love magic, this is a show for them! After 6pm the shows are tailored for adults, plus most of the audience will be enjoying a drink or two (non-alcoholic options are available).
To the side of the venue you will find the Maho Mini Bar where you can relax with a drink before or after the show. The show runs for 60 minutes.
