Chalamet is the eldest sibling in her family and was born in New York City. Her mother is a real estate broker and a former Broadway dancer and her father is a French man who is an editor for UNICEF. Her mother earned a bachelor’s degree in French from Yale and went on to teach both language and dance. Hence why Chalamet is bilingual in both French and English and was a trained dancer for nearly 10 years.

Chalamet began taking classes at the School of American Ballet in 2001 and danced in a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the age of 10. She took dance classes for nearly a decade until a biking accident ended her dancing career. She also explained how it was easier to film naked scenes and sex scenes on the show during the pandemic, because they had fewer people on set and everyone was masked up, so she couldn’t see their reactions.
