Republican Cory Mills has won the Congress District 7 seat.Democrat Karen Green and Republican Cory Mills had been vying for a seat that was laid open by Democrat Stephanie Murphy, who chose not to seek reelection. The district covers all of Seminole County, a small portion of Orange and southern Volusia counties. The 7th Congressional District was previously neutral to slightly Democrat in voter registration. After redistricting under DeSantis, the district now leans Republican.Green and Mills shared their respective focus issues with WESH 2 in October. Green said she hopes to tackle transportation concerns immediately.”We want to make sure we have good roadways, we want to make sure we have investments and trains and buses, and the I-4 corridor should never be seen as a bumper-to-bumper again,” Green said.She also said she plans to invest more in infrastructure so Florida may weather hurricanes more effectively. Green and Mills agreed that affordable housing was a huge concern.Mills said he is also focused on inflation and education. He said he has already drafted bills, similar to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Parental Rights in Education law or, as critics call it, the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law.And one bill he called the ‘Publishing House’ bill.”It would actually hold publishing houses accountable, the Scholastics, the McGraw hills, etc. If they tried to print and publish with distribution to our schools, inappropriate pornographic materials, then it would be held on or felonious offense, and they would actually have to register sex offenders for those who actually signed off on this,” Mills said.Mills also wants schools to create a rating system for children’s books.”We should have a grading system or a rating system for every single book so that when we take it out of their backpacks, we know that it’s age appropriate for our children,” Mills said.
