The Pendulum Lounge is open 4:30-8 p.m. at Midland Center for the Arts. Kimberly Megoran will provide live music. Guests can enjoy craft cocktails, small plates and hearty offerings. Tickets are not required to attend the Pendulum Lounge, seating is available on a first-come first-served basis.
Yoga is set for 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Dahlia Hill. Come early to peruse the blooms, then settle in for an all-levels yoga practice led by Sarah Nelson. No experience is necessary. The AAUW Fall Book Sale is set for 9 a.m.-8 p.m. at the Midland Mall. The sale will continue 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Sunday. Book lovers may browse through hardcovers, paperbacks, fiction, nonfiction, children’s books and more. Most books are priced $1-$2, with a small selection priced individually.
Neighboring Week: Brownies and Bookmarks is set for 10 a.m. at Safe and Sound Child Advocacy Center. Visit the center for a brownie, bookmark and tour the agency. It’s the perfect time to get questions answered about keeping kids safe. This event is free.

A Fall Walk is set for 5-8 p.m. at Dow Gardens. Enjoy an evening walk, through the luminary-lit forest, at the peak of fall color. This event includes live music and seasonal refreshments (available for purchase at the Café). Included with admission or purchase of an annual admission card.
Broadway Flight Series is set for 7-9 p.m. at Creative 360. Creative 360 is pairing Broadway musicals and wine for a “balanced evening of smooth, live entertainment with a spicy finish.” Performers from the Great Lakes Bay Region will whisk audiences through a taste of four Broadway shows while they enjoy a coordinated selection of wines. Guests may bring their own beverage. Cost is $20 pre-pay, $25 at the door.
The Commons Live Music series will host the Sinclairs Band at 7-9 p.m. at the Pedestrian Plaza Stage at the intersection of McDonald and Main streets in Downtown Midland. Saturday, Oct. 1
A Fall Harvest Festival is set for 10 a.m. at Chippewa Nature Center. Visitors of all ages will enjoy demonstrations, crafts and activities that reflect 19th century farm life during harvest season. Activities include apple butter and cider making, beekeeping, blacksmithing, candle dipping, chair caning, children’s crafts, gardening, schoolyard games and more. This event is free for CNC members and all children, $5 for non-member adults.

Learn to Play the Ukulele in One Hour is set for 1-2 p.m. at Creative 360’s 142 E Ashman St. location. Creative 360 has ukuleles, lively instructors and snacks. Participants are welcome to bring their own beverage. If participants already have a ukulele – or already know how to play – they may bring it for an afternoon of fun and camaraderie. Ukuleles will be available for purchase. Reservations are required. Cost is $5.
Fall into Politics: Chili, Ratatouille and Candidates is set for 4-6 p.m. Learn more about the candidates running in Midland from U.S. Congress down to county commissioner. Guests can pick up literature, signs, and good food, good friends and visit with candidates. The Midland Democratic Party will be at the pavilion on Manor Street.

Nature Play is set for 2-4 p.m. at Chippewa Nature Center’s The Woods Nature Play Area near Arbury Trail. It’s time to play outdoors! Whether it’s making pies in the mud kitchen, pretending to be animals, lounging in hammocks or creating nature art, this time of play is sure to engage everyone. Caregivers must remain with children during this program and are encouraged to actively play alongside the children in their care. This program will be facilitated by a CNC staff member. Learn to Swing Dance in One Hour is set for 5-6 p.m. at Creative 360. Blast from the Past will play 6-8 p.m. in Creative 360’s Bayliss gallery and Laura and Dexter Brigham will show participants the basics from 5-6 p.m. No experience necessary – come alone or with a partner. This event is for ages 16 and up. Cost is $5.

A Story Hour is set for 9:30-10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at Chippewa Nature Center. Come spend an hour learning about nature. A Fall Color Tour by Voyageur Canoe is set for 5:30-7 p.m. at Chippewa Nature Center. Enjoy a colorful autumn afternoon on the Tittabawassee River while paddling a 29-foot Voyageur canoe, exploring the river and shoreline as the group shares stories of the past. The group will meet at Golfside Drive Park Boat Launch off Currie Parkway. Cost is $20.

An Evening of Disability Culture is set for 7-8:30 p.m. at Creative 360. Join disabled artists Stephanie Heit and Petra Kuppers for an offering that will include poetry, fiction, movement and more in an evening that will invite and celebrate creative expression. Refreshments will be served. This event is free, but donations are always welcome.

A Spooktacular Halloween Flea Market and Craft Show is set for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at 132 Ashman Circle in Midland. Twenty craft vendors and food trucks will be present. Visitors can scour booths for unique Halloween crafts and vintage flea market items for sale. Coffee will be available for purchase through the Stranded Yarn Coffee Shop. Parking is in front of the building. There is additional parking located in the back of the building.
Writing Workshop I with Sephanie Heit and Petra Kuppers is set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Creative 360’s Downtown Midland space. In this generative workshop, participants will use sensory experiences as starting points for writing in poetry, fiction, or nonfiction. The group will engage in writing experiments for the majority of the session with the remaining time used for optional sharing. Suggested $15 donation.
Sensorial Forests Experience with Stephanie Heit and Petra Kuppers is set for 3-5 p.m. at Chippewa Nature Center. The group will tune into our bodyminds using breath and movement; explore surroundings through a menu of texture, sound, memory, smell, language, gesture; and collaborate as a group to create support, cultivate pleasure and tend themselves and the space around them. Suggested $15 donation.
The Fall 2022 Midland County Treasure Hunt is set for 4:15-9:30 p.m. Participants will gather at the old Farmers Market area by the Tridge. From there, they’ll solve a series of Star Trek-themed puzzles which will take them around the area, ending at a final destination where everyone will enjoy a meal together. The Midland Symphony Orchestra’s first concert of the season, “Symphonic Dances: Rebirth, Renewal and West Side Story,” is set for 7:30 p.m. at Midland Center for the Arts. The concert will feature Dai Wei, who was inspired by cycles of rebirth when composing Samsaric Dance. The evening is rounded out by the lush rhythmic vivacity and shifting tones of Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances and selections from Bernstein’s iconic musical. Mid-Mitten Wild Ones’s presentation on “Fruit-Producing Trees and Shrubs” is set for 6:30-8 p.m. at Chippewa Nature Center. Fall is a good time to plant new trees and shrubs, since the roots gain a few weeks of growth before cold weather sets in. Learn about these native plants from Martha Holzheuer, Nature Niche owner, certified landscape ecologist, and Jeanne Henderson, interpretive naturalist, Mid-Mitten Chapter President. There is no cost to attend.

Fall Color Tour by Golf Cart is set for 1-2:30 p.m. at Chippewa Nature Center. Meet in front of the Visitor Center to catch a tour that will take guests around the prime locations on CNC’s property to catch a glimpse of the autumn beauty. Personal mobility equipment may be safely stored in the Visitor Center for the duration of the program. Cost is $15, registration is required.

The Peking Acrobats featuring the Shanghai Circus is set to perform at 7 p.m. at Midland Center for the Arts. Accompanied by live musicians on traditional Chinese instruments, in a time-honored tradition that fuses Chinese music and awe-inspiring acrobatic feats, the Peking Acrobats also incorporate high-tech special effects, creating an exuberant performance with the festive pageantry of a Chinese Carnival. The 42nd Annual Ski Swap is set for 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Greater Midland Community Center, hosted by the Snow Snake Mountain Ski Patrol. Families will have the opportunity to purchase new and used ski and snowboarding equipment of all sizes at reasonable prices. Available equipment includes skis, snowboards, ski and snowboard boots, XC equipment, helmets and winter clothing. Due to construction activities at the Community Center, the main parking lot is closed; parking is available in parking lots off of Nelson, East Collins, and George streets.
The Midland Fire Department’s annual open house is set for 1-4 p.m. at their Headquarters Station on Haley Street. Guests are invited to come and meet firefighters, tour the station, check out equipment, and learn about fire safety.

Airport Story Hour is set for 1-2 p.m. at Jack Barstow Municipal Airport. Children ages 2-5 are invited to enjoy a light snack while listening to an aviation/space related story at this free event. Warm weather readings will be held in the beautiful outdoor MCADA area near the terminal. Cold weather readings will be held in the terminal building. If held inside current CDC recommendations will be followed.
A Poetry Reading by Carol Sanford is set for 2-3:30 p.m. at Creative 360. Carol Sanford comes back to Creative 360 to read all new poems from “Deadheading Daisies” as well as a collection of humorous pieces. Join her for an afternoon of ease and poetry. Bring an old or new friend. Light refreshments provided. Guests are asked to preregister if possible. Cost is $8 with all proceeds going to Creative 360.
Natural Resource Use by Indigenous People is set for 2 p.m. at Chippewa Nature Center. Indigenous people lived near the Pine River for hundreds of years and used plants and animals in their environment to prosper. Fall was an important time of year to make final preparations for the coming winter. Join CNC’s historical interpreter to learn about these necessary resources. Meet outside the Visitor Center. Let’s Roll Together Skate Session is set for 6-7:30 p.m. at the Roll Arena. Join The Arc of Midland for an all-inclusive skate session for individuals with and without disabilities. This session will include wheelchair accessible lanes. These lanes can also be used by individuals who may need assistance with a non-skating support person.
