The Tartan Army recently discovered that it had spread more sunshine than it realised. Since 2003 a group within the Scotland support has raised money to make a donation to a children’s charity in every country the men’s team visits to play a game. The generosity is matched only by the longevity: this week the run will extend to donations at 92 away trips in a row.
The Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal is the original and longest established charity funded by Scotland fans but even those at the heart of it were startled to realise how much had been raised and distributed to good causes over the 19 years since it was created. “We thought maybe it would be £90,000, maybe £100,000,” said Clark Gillies,
