Lilac Reserve playground in Mount Barker has a lot of different climbing options, a suspension bridge and a large slide for kids who love climbing to new heights!

Review by Adaire Prosser

As Mount Barker expands, we are being treated to new playgrounds and Lilac Reserve does not disappoint! There are plenty of options to challenge kids who love climbing and beautiful views of the rolling hills around Mount Barker.

With climbing nets, climbing walls and a rope and ramp there is plenty to challenge the brave explorers. Nice wide platforms are safe options for those who are still finding their confidence in climbing. A suspension bridge runs between the two towers, and there is a small slide or large tube slide from the top. The playground has been built with lots of encasing walls and barriers so you can sit back and supervise from a small distance.

The playground also features a double swing set and speaking tubes which our kids had lots of giggles using. If you have small toddlers, they may need assistance on the play equipment to reach the small slide.

There are beautiful views from the top of the play area, and some gravel paths through the trees for exploring. Although there are no toilets currently, there is a sheltered picnic bench to enjoy some snacks out of the weather. The play area has some nice grassed areas for play, but is not fenced from the road so keep an eye on little wanderers.

Things to Consider:

  • The main play area is not shaded, so bring hats and sunscreen on sunny days.
  • Small kids and toddlers may need assistance to reach the smaller slide as there is no easy climbing option
  • The area is not fenced, but is in a quiet area.

Our favourite nearby coffee spots/cafes:

  • Kitchen Farm Pantry – located nearby off Flaxley Road, Mount Barker
  • Lobethal Bakery – Gawler Street Mount Barker
  • Lady Luck Café – on Walker Street Mount Barker (just off Gawler Street)

Location:

Lilac Reserve is located in the Clover Park development, on 32/14 Swallowtail St, Mount Barker.

Road parking is available on Swallowtail Street.
