This winter I’m working with Cotton Traders as they have launched a classic and timeless collection with Alex Jones, full of stylish knits and coats. If you’re wondering how to level up your style as you head into your 40s, you’re not alone. Whether you’re no longer looking for formal office attire but don’t know what to pick instead. As you step into this new chapter, it’s a great time to embrace your unique style and build a wardrobe that’s equal parts timeless and trendy. Whether you’re dressing for casual outings, professional settings, or special occasions, our guide is packed with style tips to help you look and feel fabulous.
Discovering Your Personal Style Over 40
I’ve felt it a bit of a struggle trying to figure out what to wear and how to refine my style personality as I’ve transitioned from London corporate life to working from home, school runs and running a home based business. It’s so easy to just end up in jeans with a top that works on a Zoom call!
What I’ve useful is embracing a mix of natural fabrics, neutral colours, and the odd splash of bright hue that suits my skin tone.
This is also a great time to experiment with a capsule wardrobe, which is a curated selection of clothing items that stand the test of time. This means you are never shifting through too many items each morning as you have fewer pieces but which can all combine as standalone outfits. French women, often admired for their timeless wardrobes, use this method of putting together a chic, simple look which feels effortless.
Wardrobe Staples for Women Over 40
Building a casual wardrobe that works for every season of your life is key and takes away any last minute stress. These staples are versatile and stylish. I love that I don’t have to think too hard about what to wear each day.
Skinny Jeans and Wide Leg Jeans
Both styles can be flattering depending on your body type. Pair them with a leather jacket or shacket for a casual look or a camel coat for a polished vibe.
I can’t give up my skinny style jeans and these Jersey Denim Slim-Fit Jeggings are a good in-between. They are also incredibly comfortable and come in three washes. The Lightwash in my opinion is perfect for spring.
