The Children’s Book Review
What to Expect: Families, heritage, tradition, and moving house.
In this lovely, simple story, readers are shown the value of having family traditions, stories, and heirlooms.
Eliot was feeling pretty grumpy. He wanted to go outside and play, but it was raining, and he didn’t have the right shoes for playing outside in the rain. Eliot tried explaining to his family how grumpy he was, but none of them were much help. Then, his mom had a great idea.
She told Eliot a story … about when she was younger, wanted to play in the rain, and wore very special red boots. When she got too big to wear her red boots, she gave them to her brother, and then her sister, and then her other brother, and then Elliot’s big sister—and now it was Eliot’s turn to inherit the special red boots and play outside in the rain!
The story is told through simple language and is ideal for beginner readers and younger listeners. The characters feel real, with a surprising amount of personality and backstory packed into a concise text. Readers are sure to relate to Eliot’s initial frustration, and by seeing his mood change after hearing his mother’s story, they will learn about how shared stories and history can impact their lives today. Vibrant, vintage comic-book-style artwork complements the theme of tradition and lends lively personalities to the characters.
Eliott and the Red Boots is instructive and enjoyable to read—great for shared reading.

About the Author
Born and raised in Indianapolis, IN, Seth Hunt discovered his passion for drawing at a tender age. At twelve, a Christmas gift of a sketch pad and drawing table ignited his love for illustration. Immersed in comic books, he pedaled to the local shop, spending hours absorbed in storytelling artistry. Middle school advanced art programs honed his skills beyond pencil and paper, expanding his repertoire.
While pursuing graphic design in college, Seth delved into digital illustration but found the path unfulfilling. Despite this setback, he dedicated his free time to refining his illustrative style, drawing inspiration from various sources.
After years of working and starting a family, Seth returned to school, earning a degree in Informatics. This transition facilitated a career as a Data Analyst, providing flexibility to prioritize parenthood while nurturing his artistic endeavors.
Launching his own business and website, Seth showcases his original artwork, prints, stickers, and apparel. Drawing from childhood comic book adventures, he embarked on children’s storytelling, exemplified by his debut book, Eliot and the Red Boots. Inspired by his family’s tradition, the tale weaves a (somewhat) true narrative of passing down a cherished pair of red boots to his young son, Eliot.
Seth aspires to continue Eliot’s adventures, captivating audiences with imaginative tales that resonate with the heart.
