Security forces and armed groups are committing war crimes against civilians in Burkina Faso, according to the NGO Amnesty International. Its report: “Death was slowly creeping on us: Living under siege in Burkina Faso” focuses on crimes against civilians in many parts of the country. Burkina Faso has undergone two military coups, the most recent in September 2022.
Meanwhile in DR Congo, inflation has become an electoral issue. The US dollar is used in major transactions in the capital Kinshasa, and is also the currency of choice for groceries, eating out at restaurants and more. But the exchange rate with the local currency, the Congolese franc, fluctuates daily, and recently reached a record 2,500 francs per dollar in Kinshasa. Inflation has become a major worry for the city’s inhabitants. With elections approaching, many Congolese are expecting government measures to lower the rate.
Finally, King Charles and Queen Camilla have wrapped up their state visit to Kenya. The king met met with religious leaders from Christian, Hindu, Muslim and African traditional faiths when he visited East Africa’s oldest mosque and the Anglican cathedral of Mombasa.
