The Children’s Book Review

Tiny Bird: Book Cover

What to Expect: Self-belief, confidence, learning, family, overcoming fear.

Believing in oneself can be challenging when we feel inferior to others, but Tiny Bird demonstrates to readers that positive thinking, support from loved ones, and the right mindset are the keys to overcoming fear and finding freedom.

Tiny Bird is named “Tiny Bird” because he hatched from his egg so much smaller than his brother and sister. Because he is so tiny, Tiny Bird finds the idea of flying downright terrifying. His wings feel so small, and the ground feels so far away! Luckily, Tiny Bird’s family believes in him. With words of encouragement, they let Tiny Bird know that they are right there with him and there is nothing to be afraid of. Their words give him the courage he needs to take his leap of faith right up into the sky … and that’s all it takes for Tiny Bird to learn to fly!

This engaging educational story illustrates strategies for fostering self-belief, including taking grounding breaths, seeking support from others, and practicing self-talk. Colorful contemporary artwork adds depth and detail to the simple, beginner-friendly text, making the story appropriate even for very young readers, while the timid but determined character of Little Bird himself offers readers a realistic role model to relate to.

Straightforward and empowering, Tiny Bird is a picture book perfect for readers who need a bit of a boost to believe in themselves.
