Nestled in the quiet streets of Nairne, the Matthew Smillie Drive Reserve playground offers a range of equipment for hours of fun!
Review by Adaire Prosser
The Matthew Smillie Drive Reserve playground has lots of options for climbing and swinging and is set on a large reserve with lots of space. This little playground is one frequented by local families due to its quiet location and range of play equipment. You will find all the usual favourites here; a swing set with a net swing, a four-way seesaw and dual slide.
There is a chain bridge perfect for older kids who have mastered their balance, a fireman pole and jumping posts. A four-way climbing box offers obstacles perfect for kids who love challenging themselves.
The highlight of this playground is the accessible flying fox, which is set up as a harness for kids to sit in and glide along.
There is a shaded seating area as well as a basketball court with a soccer net. No toilets are located on the reserve, the closest public toilets are a short drive away at the Chapmans Shopping complex or at Mick Murphy Park. There is partial fencing from the road, but the playground is not fully enclosed.
Things to Consider:
- The playground is not shaded, so sunscreens and hats are required on hot, sunny days.
- The closest toilets are a short drive away, so keep that in mind.
- The playground equipment is ideal for older kids. There are large gaps in the ladder and the chain bridge which could be unsafe for toddlers and younger children.
