What to Do in London if You Want to Feel Like Royalty

Hands-down, if you’re looking for a memorable summer in London, well, going about it just a little more fancy can really be the best choice. So, London just has that posh energy (well, it can). The buildings are fancy, the street names sound like someone’s great-great-grandfather named them, and even the pigeons seem a bit more confident (again, depends on the neighbourhood). If you’re heading into the city and feeling the urge to treat yourself like royalty, even just for a day, you’re in the right place (because London really is the best option).

Now, sure, this isn’t about going full tiara and scones at every stop, but it’s more about finding those spots and moments that feel a little extra, in the best way possible. But what exactly do you need to do to feel like royalty in London?

It’s About the Hotel

If you’re going for luxury, it starts with where you stay. Sure, the big-name hotels like Accor or Hilton are fine, but the sweet spot is finding a place that’s elegant and a little bit low-key. You really want to feel like royalty, and those basic chain hotels don’t really do it. Instead, just think of plush throws, actual character, and a bath you can stretch out in. Some of those boutique hotels in Kensington or Marylebone are actually a pretty great option.

Yeah, you don’t need ten pillows and a butler. Just a room that makes you want to put your phone down and lounge around in a robe for no reason.

Get The Fancy Meal

Absolutely, you need to do this one! There’s no royal experience without a meal that takes its sweet time. You know the kind, multiple forks, tiny butter portions, a dessert menu that deserves applause. You don’t need to dress like a Bridgerton extra, but something about sitting down at a linen-covered table just makes everything feel more elevated.

Thankfully, there’s more than enough fine dining London spots that you can choose from. Plus, since there’s such a big variety, the pricing varies too (meaning some are way more affordable than you might think).

Do the Palace Thing, Without the Crowds

Okay, look, Buckingham Palace is cool and all, but it’s packed. It’s almost always packed. But if you want royal without the sea of phones in your face, head to Kensington Palace instead. It’s just as fancy, quieter, and you can actually pretend you’re living there without someone elbowing you.

But if you’re really in the mood, make the trip out to Hampton Court Palace. Really, it just can’t be recommended enough because it’s like walking straight into a period drama. Besides, there are fewer tourists, more peacocks, and the kind of gardens that make you consider moving to the countryside. Oh, and if you’re a fan of Netflix’s show “You”, parts of it were filmed there.

End On a High Note

Last, but definitely not least, you should finish your day with something that feels indulgent. That might be a cocktail in a dark and moody hotel bar, a stroll through St James’s Park as the sun’s dipping low, or sitting somewhere quiet with a glass of wine and pretending you’ve got staff waiting at home.

You don’t need to do much. Just take your time, soak it all in, really, it’s worth it.
