BIG Family Weekend – DreamBIG Children’s Festival 2025
Celebrate Adelaide Festival Centre’s 50th birthday at the BIG Family Weekend. Located at Adelaide Festival Centre, Festival Plaza and surrounds, this action-packed, weekend celebration is designed for kids and families, featuring more than 50 exciting events, activities, and performances over two fun-filled days.
Performances and Event Highlights :
BIG Family Weekend Outdoor Stage
The DreamBIG Outdoor Stage showcases high-energy musical acts and colourful dance performances throughout Big Family Weekend, there’s something for every child to enjoy!
Scribble Zone
The Scribble Zone will start with blank walls and a whole lot of art materials. Throughout the festival, children are encouraged to draw on the walls, ceiling, and floor, creating one collaborative, scribbly, doodle-y room of art, colour, and fun. It’s a space where kids can let their imaginations run wild and contribute to a vibrant, ever-evolving masterpiece.
Massive Maker Space
Let your imagination run wild! Get creative with SA’s own Climbing Tree and their huge pile of junk loose parts. Massive Maker Space is a small world of possibilities where you can make anything you can imagine!
String Symphony
String Symphony is the story of Leor, a giant marionette made of over one kilometre of woven rope, waiting to be brought to life by DreamBIG’s audience. Follow Leor as he explores his place in the world. Up to 30 young people will have the opportunity to puppet Leor each performance. Spare Parts Puppeteers recommend children aged 7+ wield the puppet (and will select audience members to participate accordingly), but all ages can enjoy the performance.
The Plants
The Plants is a wonderous musical installation that invites families to create their own musical compositions using unique digital instruments…. Plants! Create the musical experience for yourself and around you through combining organic matter and bespoke digital sensors – it will be unlike any musical instrument you have seen, heard or played before!
Step inside the DreamBIG Lucky Dip Tent!
This 20 minute performance tent is a place where curiosity reigns. Whether you’re drawn to the thrill of suspense, the joy of the unexpected, or the sheer delight of wonder, you’ll never know what you might find in the Lucky Dip Tent! Mystery lineup of acts include: music, storytelling, theatre, comedy and circus for all ages.
Glow Lounge
Step into the rich sonic world of Glow Lounge, an intimate dance space for families with babies under 12 months. With mellow lighting, subdued colours, and chilled rhythms, this gentle, immersive experience encourages families to ebb and flow together, finding their shared rhythm through movement and gesture.
Guided by the lush sounds of Zindzi Okenyo’s voice, with elemental beats by Zoë Barry – each family will create their own unique dance experience – with their youngest family member at the very centre.
Created by Threshold, Glow Lounge invites families to take a moment to connect more deeply with each other.
Merch and the Kidtrepreueur Market
Discover your new favourite young entrepreneur at DreamBIG’s Kids Market, where every stall is filled with unique goods created and sold by young people!
Food Trucks
More than a dozen food vendors will be available across Festival Plaza and Adelaide Festival Centre, including coffee of course!
DreamBIG Guides will be on the ground for directions and help navigating Adelaide Festival Centre and Festival Plaza.
