The Messy Magic Adventure: Adelaide Fringe 2025 Review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️   4 Stars for slapstick, magic and acrobatics perfect for young kids.

Review by Claire Davill

Spray and Wipe have been tasked with cleaning a magician’s house, but somehow the mess increases as both cleaners discover magic in every corner. The result is a simple but gloriously entertaining show that’s pitched perfectly at young children.

The slapstick is silly, the magic tricks simple but effective, and the performers engage with the kids at just the right level to invoke cheeky giggles and shrieks of delight. There’s also an impressive amount of adults-only jokes for the parents in attendance that fly right over the kids’ heads.

From ladder balancing to items catching on fire, to a literal pie in the face, the show keeps kids engaged without being over the top or overwhelming. Toddlers in the audience were delighted, and older kids laughed and gasped at the feats performed.

Expect some audience participation (both kids and adults) and expect to get wet if you sit in the front rows.

The Messy Magic Adventure is kid’s entertainment at it simplest – proof that you don’t need a fancy set or over-the-top acts to keep children entertained and laughing for an hour. The show is recommended for children aged 3 to 8, but our 9 year old reviewer thoroughly enjoyed herself too – and the adults in attendance had a great time as well.

The Messy Magic Adventure is playing at The Factory – The Garden of Unearthly Delights until 23 March 2025.
