The Amazing Adventures of Super Smart Kids: Book Cover

What to Expect: Family, adventure, and heartwarming lessons.

The Amazing Adventures of the Super Smart Kids offers a heartwarming collection of stories that begins with family bonds strengthened through adoption and the magical journey that follows.

The story centers on the Smart family, whose children, Adam and Betsy, have such big hearts that they convince their parents through two pieces of poignant poetry to adopt two more children: Chika from Africa and her disabled pen pal Dana from Denmark. Their lives transform completely when the four children witness a mysterious circular formation of four stars, and they suddenly find themselves filled with all the knowledge of the world.

When their extraordinary abilities eventually catch the attention of the President himself, the kids help solve scientific problems and even save the world—yet, despite the children’s newfound intelligence, they remain humble and respectful, never using their gifts to boast or disrespect their teachers. Each chapter thoughtfully concludes with reflective questions like “Have you ever noticed that helping others and making them happy makes you happy also?”—perfect prompts for bedtime contemplation.

West’s storytelling style gives the book an authentic, warm tone (reflecting his experience crafting oral bedtime tales for his children and grandchildren) that will surely resonate with its target audience. The episodic structure works well, featuring adventures with magic hamburgers and even a time machine the children build together, setting up endless possibilities for future stories.

The format strikes a nice balance—substantial enough to feel like complete mini-stories when reading individual chapters yet cohesive enough to create a satisfying overall arc. This approach makes it ideal for both read-aloud sessions and independent reading by children who want to tackle one chapter at a time. The book includes a few pieces of digital spot art that add some color to the text-filled pages.

The Amazing Adventures of the Super Smart Kids will particularly appeal to fans of series like The Boxcar Children or Magic Tree House, who enjoy episodic adventures within a larger framework. It’s perfect for family reading time with children ages 4-10 and new readers looking for stories with positive messages about kindness, family bonds, and using one’s gifts responsibly.
