McLauchlan Road Playground in Windsor Gardens is fully fenced, packed with features and surrounded by native landscaping.
Review by Claire Davill
Windsor Gardens has a new playground in the small and quiet McLauchlan Road Reserve, and while small, it’s packed with equipment for toddlers and older kids. The playground is fully fenced and there are some accessible features as well.
The playground is set on a gentle slope, with landscaping terraces that provide plenty of flat surfaces and low rock walls to balance on. The central equipment boasts a twisty slide, climbing nets and a double sided climbing wall. The twisty slide can only be accessed by climbing the net, so smaller kids might not be able to access this.
There are also ropes with footholds and a bendy ladder in this piece of equipment.
For toddlers and smaller kids, there’s a traditional slide nearby that’s easier to access, with a simple ladder and enclosed platform.
The accessible merry go round can be accessed from the pathway that circles the play equipment. There’s a seat, room for a wheelchair and good grip on the platform.
There’s a springy kangaroo seat which is also well-sized for toddlers.
The swing set is also somewhat accessible and includes two regular swings and a toddler swing.
The in-ground trampoline is located on the top terrace, and nearby there is a chalkboard for drawing on.
Nature-inspired play areas surround the top terrace, with logs, wooden and stone stepping stones, and a balance beam. These areas are surrounded by landscaping that uses native plants. These plants were roped off when we visited, to allow the plants to get established.
Facilities within the playground include benches and a picnic table, bins and a drinking fountain. There are two child-proof gates on either side of the fenced area.
There’s a large area of lawn next to the playground, but this area is not fenced.
Things to Consider:
- There is very little shade in the playground, except for natural shade from some trees. Take sunscreen!
- Take some chalk for the chalkboard, there won’t necessarily be any when you visit.
- Parking is available along McLauchlan Road, with less traffic on the section of road that encircles the park.
- There are no toilets at the reserve. The nearest toilets are located at the Windsor Grove Playground, a 2 minute drive away.
Our favourite nearby coffee spots/cafes:
The playground is a short drive from OG road, and the Dutch Pantry in Klemzig is just 2km away.
