The Mirror | Gravity & Other Myths | Adelaide Fringe 2025 Review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️   5 stars for a slick, humorous, and edgy production with flawless acrobatics and mesmerising vocals

Review by Mel

Look in the mirror and what do you see? The Mirror, by the incredible acrobatic troupe, Gravity & Other Myths is a slick, edgy, and very funny production that holds a mirror up to its audience, reminding us that modern life is full of contradictions, oddities, irony, and façades.

The breathtaking acrobatic performances flow seamlessly through modern topics such as social media, love, abuse, control, image, work and relationships –  fully supported by the captivating vocals of Ekrem Eli Phoenix, master of musical mash-ups with splendid comedic timing. A fluid evolution of costumes and moody, pulsing music and lighting are used to trigger the senses and immerse the audience into the rapidly evolving scenarios. Live selfie stick close ups disarm and amuse.

However you find yourself travelling through life, The Mirror may feel a little confronting as it exposes the relentless and often absurd cycles of life we find ourselves in, highlighting uncomfortable truths. Bodies are manipulated, contorted and forced together and (sometimes forcefully) apart, moving as one human pyramid or darting around and through each other through flawless acrobatics. Yet, despite this confrontation, the production never preaches or lectures. Instead, the beauty of this show is that we’re given permission to laugh at ourselves and together as an audience.

Although rated PG, the show may be better suited to older audiences, 15+ years. There are several themes which are likely to be appreciated by more mature audience members and costumes, at times, include minimal lingerie.

This is Gravity & Other Myths taken to the next level: creative, intelligent and witty.
