Monski Mouse’s Baby Cabaret: Adelaide Fringe 2025 Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 Stars for a delightfully magical sing-a-long
Review by Lisa Bachmayer
If it’s your little one’s first Fringe and your first Fringe as a parent, this is the show for you. Monski Mouse’s Baby Cabaret is a delightfully sweet introduction to the Fringe Festival and live performance for the very young and their carers.
It’s basically a magical version of baby or toddler time at the library. Instead of books, there’s live guitar, roving puppetry and mood lighting in the fabulously atmospheric Spiegeltent. We also haven’t yet seen a children’s librarian do a rendition of I’m a Little Teapot quite like the way Monski Mouse and her pals do.
This live sing-a-long is for perfect for babies, toddlers and preschoolers who love their nursery rhymes, as well as parents or carers who enjoy sharing musical moments with their little ones.
Monski Mouse and her three friends, equipped with a guitar and some lovely rod puppets, perform all the classic nursery rhymes – the wheels on the bus, row your boat, and twinkle twinkle – as well as a bunch of other lesser known, fun tunes you’ve probably forgotten about.
Then, and this is where Monski Mouse and her pals really shine, there are some fabulous reworked classics and quirky originals sprinkled throughout the performance that the adult audience members will appreciate.
This includes the aforementioned I’m a Little Teapot – sung to the tune of a 70s rock anthem that has been in our heads all weekend – and a humorous, fabulous ode to toddler life to the tune of a catchy Amy Winehouse hit.
Other highlights include Walking On The Moon and – our favourite – Let’s Go Fly A Kite from Mary Poppins, which saw dozens of babies and toddlers zooming through the air in a sweet spectacle.
Perhaps it’s just me getting sentimental in my middle age, but there was something special about singing along to Twinkle Twinkle, with the star-like lights dancing on the ceiling of the magical Spiegeltent over our heads.
Monski Mouse harnesses the magic of her lovely venue, creating an atmosphere that is the perfect blend of relaxed (cue cushions and rugs for seating, with a ring of chairs around the outside) and vintage cabaret fabulousness (sparkly glam frocks for the ladies and charming bow ties for the men).
With a large foyer and laid-back seating area, there are no problems if you and your little one need to step aside or wander around a bit during the 50 minute show.
Monski Mouse’s Baby Cabaret is running on the weekends and public holiday at 10am through the Fringe season. It is a thoroughly enjoyable and atmospheric sing-a-long for 0 to 5 year olds, with some fabulous creative licence that will be appreciated by adults.
