Treasures of the Viking Age: The Galloway Hoard will be unveiled at the South Australian Museum in February 2025.
Following highly acclaimed presentations in Scotland, the Adelaide exhibition will be the first opportunity to view this unique archaeological discovery outside Britain.
The Galloway Hoard is the richest find of rare and unique Viking Age objects ever made in the UK. Buried around AD 900 and only discovered in 2014 in southwest Scotland, the Hoard contains a stunning variety of rare and beautiful objects, including finely crafted jewellery, personal mementos, and exotic curiosities. Along with the remarkable objects themselves, the exhibition features ground-breaking research into these treasures and what they reveal about Viking Age Britain.
The exhibition is produced by National Museums Scotland and the showing in Adelaide is supported by the South Australian Tourism Commission.
