The upgraded playground at BIG4 West Beach is an adventure-lovers dream!

Review by Adaire Prosser

West Beach Parks spans 1.2 kilometers of Adelaide coastline and is a family favourite activity and accommodation hub. In 2023, a multimillion dollar upgrade went into BIG4 and The Retreat at West Beach Parks. Part of this upgrade saw the main playground at BIG4 undergo a huge remodel to become an adventure playspace.

There is equipment to suit a wide range of ages and abilities. For older kids, there are two flying foxes, a multilevel adventure tower with three slides, climbing ropes and platforms, and a ninja-style climbing frame.

Two smaller nautical-themed pieces of equipment will suit younger children, complete with climbing ropes and slides and located underneath partial shade. Smaller children who are not confident climbers will need assistance to get to the slides.

There is also a range of swings, including a double swing with a basket and wide seat, and two net swings. The in-ground trampolines and carousel are also suitable and accessible for different abilities.

The playground is located in the centre of the park, adjacent to the kiosk. There are shaded picnic benches and nearby heaters, so you can enjoy a coffee or treat while watching the kids play in year-round comfort.

The BIG4 Park also has a lot more on offer for kids to enjoy, including a heated pool for year-round enjoyment, two jumping pillows, a splash park, tennis and basketball courts and indoor activity and game spaces. There are bikes and go-karts for hire and beach access from the park.

You will find a huge range of accommodation to suit couples or families, including sites for tents and caravans, glamping tents, and a variety of cabins. You can also check out the adjacent Retreat Park with accommodation and activities to suit families.

West Beach Parks is ideal for either short or long holidays, as there is plenty to see or do in the nearby area.
