ACT! Book Set

Publisher: Zoybooks (2024)

What to Expect: Interactive, Life-Skills, Safety-Focused, Movement, and Developmental.

The ACT! book set brings daily routines and safety awareness to life through cleverly designed interactive elements. This collection meets children where they are, transforming potentially challenging life lessons into playful, engaging experiences.

Every young child faces moments of uncertainty in their daily lives. Getting dressed in the morning can feel like a puzzle. Understanding when a situation might be unsafe isn’t always clear. Even knowing how to move their bodies with confidence takes practice and guidance. The ACT! series tackles these universal childhood challenges with creativity and hands-on innovation, empowering children as they learn and practice these life skills.

At the heart of each book are interactive features that make abstract concepts tangible. In The Safety Squad, children don their own provided safety mask to become active problem-solvers. Move Like Me captures the dynamic energy of animals with elements such as pull-tabs that even bring a cheetah’s swift movements to life. The touch-and-feel elements of Helping Hands are a big draw for you the youngest readers. Pull Pull! Pop! Pop! transforms the daily challenge of getting dressed into a game, complete with a spinning color wheel, while Sharing Is… demonstrates the back-and-forth nature of generosity through sliding elements that show the immediate impact of kind choices.

The interactive mechanisms are simple enough for small hands to master independently, and the designers clearly understand their young audience—these aren’t just books to be read but tools to be used again and again, thanks to the sturdy construction that invites repeated interaction. Another element that sets this series apart is its attention to the adult reading experience. Each book comes with literacy tip cards that help parents and caregivers maximize learning moments and extend lessons beyond the page. This thoughtful addition transforms each reading session into an opportunity for deeper connection and learning.

For families navigating early childhood development, the ACT! series offers more than just stories—these books don’t just tell children what to do; they let them practice, explore, and discover through active engagement. By turning crucial life lessons into interactive play, the series makes learning natural, memorable, and, most importantly, fun. Whether used at home, in classrooms, or therapeutic settings, these books are bound to become reliable companions in building essential life skills.

About the Author/Illustrator: Kyung Min

“My hope is that we bring smiles to kids’ faces while they’re reading our books.”

A graduate of the University of the Arts with a degree in illustration and design, Kyung’s career originally took him into Product Design. As a Director of Product Design, he led his team’s creative vision and established the standard of output through mentoring, coaching, and problem-solving.

Amidst this amazing work, though, he always knew that he was an illustrator at heart and dreamed of one day illustrating and publishing a book of his own. His desire to chase that dream grew ever stronger after having two lovely daughters he read to every day, and that dream has finally manifested with the development of Zoybooks!

Now, Kyung works as the ambitious and fearless leader of Zoybooks. His previous experiences make him an ideal leader and problem solver, and he strives to create books that children can learn from, engage with, and enjoy. Not only that, but he is passionate about making reading time fun and easy for parents, too, pairing each book with suggested guidance and activities!

About the Author/Illustrator: Johnny Lee

Our second in command and jack-of-all-trades, Johnny, comes to us after 16 years in the consumer product world, working on packaging and displays for MARS Wrigley brands at Thomas J. Paul Inc. He has also dedicated over 20 years to volunteering for children at his home parish.

At Zoybooks, he looks to combine both passions by applying his expertise in design and print production to bring smiles and help young minds grow. His five-year-old daughter keeps him on his toes, both in and out of work, inspiring ideas for content and intent. This is all for you, G!

About the Author/Illustrator: Melody Yoo

“Learning and play should always be together.”

Melody is a former elementary school teacher (8+ years in K-2) with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (UD Honors) and a master’s degree in Reading & Literacy (Johns Hopkins). Her job as an illustrator and collaborator at Zoybooks combines two of her greatest loves: art and education! She loves being able to use her teaching experience and knowledge of literacy & child development to help create reading experiences that are more engaging, playful, and interactive than the typical read-aloud.

With a love of all things picture books and cartoons herself, Melody hopes to create charming books, characters, and stories that kids and adults with both love! She believes that play empowers both learning and relationship-building.
