What to Expect: Summer camp, monsters, adventure, water safety.

This beginner reading book offers a reminder about water safety and a fun monster story rolled into one.

After hearing the story of the famous lake monster of Lake Omigosh, it’s not surprising that Felix and Harry want to go see the lake for themselves. Their camp has stringent rules about using the camp boats—the children are not allowed to take the boats out in bad weather or use them without wearing life jackets. However, both boys forget these rules in their rush to get out on the lake. The boys are in real trouble when a storm rolls in and destroys their boat. But what can this strange creature be that has come to their rescue? It’s big … and has a long neck … could it be they just got rescued by the lake monster? Perhaps!

Harry and Felix, the relatable main characters, embody the enthusiasm and impetuousness of young adventurers who make an understandable mistake. The beautiful watercolor illustrations bring the story to life, especially the stunning rendition of a monster that blends turtle, dinosaur, and Nessie into a very friendly-looking giant. The simple prose text and short storyline make the book perfect for readers just starting independent reading, and the engaging plot offers lots of fuel for young imaginations.

Adventures at Lake Omigosh is a delightful new story for beginner readers, and hopefully the first in a series of more exciting Lake Omigosh summer camp stories.
