Healthcare workers, who are doing what they can to care for victims of violence in eastern DR Congo, say that they have seen a distressing increase in the number of people who have been targetted by sexual violence. Since 2021, survivors – both children and adults – have increasingly been presenting with serious physical damage and psychological trauma after ordeals that local medics say are carried out by the multiple armed groups that operate in the region.
