Stanley Street Reserve Bee Playground | Glengowrie | Review

Stanley Street Reserve Playground in Glengowrie is a cute, very unique bee-themed playground with equipment for a range of abilities.

Review by Claire Davill

This small playground packs a surprising amount of play into such a small area, and there’s lots of really unique features here, all relating to native bees.

The playground is fully fenced, and as you enter through ‘The Hive’ gate you’ll notice that everything here features hexagon shapes, from the pathways to the small gardens to the picnic shelter.

Here you’ll also find a delightful giant blue banded bee statue that’s just the ride size to ride on or to cuddle.

The main playground equipment is a collection of hexagons that create a unique climbing structure that you can climb over and in to.

One side features a climbing wall, monkey bars and a small slide.

There’s an activity board on this side too, that teaches you about native bees.

At one end there’s a challenging climbing wall with a rope to assist. Once at the top, you can access the tube slide and smaller slide, or climb down into the interior of the hive.

The hive interior includes crawl spaces between the hexagons. Some have activity boards, and some make cute little cubby spaces.

A pathway and hexagon shaped soft fall leads to a fully accessible merry go round.

This section of the playground also features a honey shop play area, complete with a wooden beehive.

You’ll also find a regular swing and toddler swing near the honey shop.

Wooden stepping logs wind around the back of the playground, followed by balance beams. They pass a smaller blue banded bee statue and end near a bee-themed board game, with its own spinner to use instead of dice.

Things to Consider:

  • The playground is fully fenced EXCEPT for a small gap behind the picnic shelter, that provides access along the outside of the tennis court to the other half of the reserve. This is easy to keep an eye on.
  • The soft fall around the main playground equipment contains bark chips, and is not accessible. The merry go round can be reached by wheelchairs and strollers.
  • Note there is no access to the adjacent tennis courts unless you are a member, the courts are locked to the general public.
  • There is a small off-street carpark next to the playground.
  • There are no toilets at this playground. Nearby public toilets are located at Da Costa Reserve and Hazelmere Road Reserve, both 1km away.
  • Keep an eye out for bee stickers throughout the playground. Apparently there are 100 to spot!

Location:

48 Stanley Street, Glengowrie
