In the Democratic Republic of Congo, 3.4% of the 16,700 recorded mpox cases have died. The government has announced a response and hopes to receive the first vaccine doses this week. But in the meantime, medical teams are tending to more and more infected people, particularly in the east of the country, the epicentre of the outbreak. Our correspondents report.
