The Children’s Book Review
What to Expect: Alliteration, humor, and courage.
Snoodles in Space Episode 2: The Zoodles Strike Back continues the rollicking and improbable space adventure found in the first book—Snoodles in Space.
In Episode 2, readers are introduced to Grimy Groodleman and Evil Kidoodle, who intend to poison the earth’s water supply and turn everyone into Willy Nillys and Dilly Dallys. Will anyone be able to save the citizens of Noodleham? Enter the Groodleman children, Frimpy Frumpy and Whimpy Whiny, to save the day! Having lost their reputation by previously making poor choices, they find the courage to stand up for what is right and tell others about their father’s evil plan. Nestled amongst the almost tongue twisters and silly-sounding names is a lesson on using bravery and standing up to do the right thing.
Readers of all ages will find something to appreciate in this book. Young readers will enjoy the goofiness of the author’s alliteration and the triumph of good over evil. Older readers will be drawn to Andy Chase’s intricate art presented in a graphic novel format and the ludicrous language Joseph has used throughout his Snoodles books. Readers need not have read the first books in the series to enjoy this story, as the author provides a synopsis of what has happened previously along with an appendix at the back of the book that explains the ever-expanding Snoodlesphere.
Once again, Steven Joseph has delivered a highly imaginative and delightfully ridiculous entry into the memorable Snoodleverse series. Snoodles in Space Episode 2: The Zoodles Strike Back! is not just a fun and unique read, but also a guaranteed source of many laughs.
