A major upgrade of the Knightsbridge Reserve playground in Leabrook retains its toddler-friendly nature, with added equipment suitable for older kids too.

Review by Claire Davill

Set in the quiet residential streets of Leabrook, Knightsbridge Reserve is shady and tranquil and a charming, low-key destination, especially for little people. The Reserve has a variety of play equipment that will appeal to toddlers and younger school aged children alike. All the play equipment was completely replaced in mid 2024, packing a lot of variety into a tiny park.

The main climbing structure is more suited to school aged children and includes a slide, fireman’s pole, monkey bars and lots of climbing nets.

Nearby is an excellent little toddler-friendly structure, accessible with soft fall and includes a little tunnel, activity boards, shop front and window, steering wheel and shelter.

The soft fall extends towards the swing structure, which contains a basket swing, regular swing and toddler swing.

Lots of log stepping stones and balance logs have been added to the reserve. These lead towards the back of the reserve where you’ll find some nature play opportunities under the big trees. Boulders and lots of river rocks have been added, just waiting to be stacked and arranged.

This area is a great spot for hide and seek as well.

One of the big pluses of Knightsbridge Reserve is that it is fully fenced, with a solid metal fence around the edge that faces the road with a child-proof lock on the gate. There’s a mixture of fencing between the reserve and adjoining houses.

Knightsbridge Reserve Leabrook Playground Review by Susannah Marks

What we like about Knightsbridge Reserve:

  • It’s fully fenced – with a child lock on the gate
  • There’s a drinking fountain and a bench to rest on
  • There’s space to run and grassy areas perfect for picnics or playing chasey
  • Being within a quiet residential area means that there is little through-traffic, or noise
  • It’s set amongst established trees and planting, and some picturesque flower gardens and houses

Things to consider:

  • Unfortunately there are no public toilet facilities
  • Much of the play area is surfaced in bark chips, so not all the play equipment is accessible
  • Parking is limited to street parking and if the park is busy with a birthday party then you may find it difficult to find a spot to park
  • Although it’s fully fenced the fencing does consist of wire fencing at one point where it adjoins a neighbouring property and this wire fencing is set behind a hedge – theoretically a fun hiding spot for adventurous children
  • There are no shade sails as such but the trees provide shade

Location:

Knightsbridge Reserve, 38a Rochester Street, Leabrook
