Protea Reserve Playground | Crafers | Review

Tucked away in the residential streets of Crafers is Protea Reserve Playground – a brand new, quiet, nature-themed playground with thoughtful accessibility features and lots to do.

Review by Claire Davill

Protea Reserve is full of natural shade and plenty of wildlife, and the new playground (opened on 2024) reflects that. The central piece of equipment contains a large “stained glass” window filled with animals and vegetation, and the rest of the playground continues the theme.

There’s a kookaburra springy seat, spider web with a spider in the centre, and three slides, climbing walls and nets, monkey bars, binoculars and a little pretend-play shop underneath.

There are some wooden balance beams and stepping stones nearby as well.

Soft fall paths allow wheeled access to various sections of the playground, including an accessible mini carousel.

A fully sealed path allows wheeled access to the lower section of the playground where you will find a basket swing, toddler swing and one extra swing.

There are picnic benches and bins throughout the reserve, and a concrete slab indicates a picnic shelter is still to come.

If you venture further down the hill, there is plenty of bushland and trails to explore in the reserve.

Things to Consider:

  • There is limited on-street parking on Lesley Crescent on the south side of the playground.
  • The reserve is unfenced, so keep an eye on little ones. The roads bordering the reserve are very quiet and there is very little traffic.
  • There are unfortunately no toilets in the reserve.
  • There is plenty of natural shade in the reserve, but you may need hats and sunscreen in the summer months.

Location:

Protea Crescent or Lesley Crescent, Crafers
