Elmo’s Circus Dream at the Norwood Concert Hall
Young children’s dreams will come true, as they delight in this dazzling, colourful and entertaining extravaganza!
Review By Jo Parkinson
Roll up, roll up! Join Elmo and his furry friends as they follow their dreams to find their hidden talent and join the circus. Showtime Attractions presents their new show, Elmo’s Circus Dream, and if you have a toddler or a preschooler you won’t want to miss it.
Playing at Norwood Concert Hall until Tuesday 2 April, this fabulous show features all of our favourite characters we love from Sesame Street live on stage.
The performance begins with a sleepy Elmo being tucked into bed with a bedtime story about a circus. As he sleeps, he dreams of his friends Cookie Monster, Grover, Bert, Ernie and Abby all discovering a special talent and joining the circus.
The stage is set with a giant inflatable tent and combined with the bright colours of the Sesame Street characters and costumes of the dancers, it grabs the attention of even the littlest audience members. There were squeals of excitement and smiles all round as they watched the familiar characters come to life up on stage.
The show flowed smoothly and quickly, which kept everyone engaged. Each Sesame Street character had their own special act as they discovered what their talent was. We loved Cookie Monsters hilarious ‘C is for Cookie’ rap and Bert and Ernie clowning around with their inflatable friends. The message throughout was wholesome, encouraging children to practice their skills and to never give up on their dreams.
We were treated to some super talented performances by circus artists as well! Mind blowing hula hooping, incredible acrobatics, mesmerising jugglers and marvellous magic, each act had the audience captivated.
There was lots of fabulous dance sequences and catchy tunes to clap along to, including Eyes Wide Open from The Greatest Showman, Who Let the Dogs Out and the Crazy Frog song.
We highly recommend this wonderful show to families with young children, or anyone who loves watching Sesame Street!
Things to keep in mind:
- The show is aimed at toddlers and preschoolers. However, we noticed babies happily watching and we took our 8-year-old who was mesmerised by the circus tricks and really enjoyed herself!
- The show is very bright and colourful and the music is upbeat and loud, so keep this in mind if you have a young child that might find this overwhelming.
- The duration of the show is 50 minutes, which was just right to keep young ones engaged.
- A merchandise stall is located right at the entrance to the theatre, selling a range of toys, light up wands and popcorn.
- VIP tickets are available, and include a photo opportunity with Elmo at the end of show as well as a take home bag with Sesame Street gifts.
- Children under 18 months do not need a ticket.
- Big Bird is not featured in the show, however there are some great photo props to pose with located around the theatre, including Big Bird.
