Constant Evolution

When you think about Crocs, you likely picture the iconic clog style that we have come to know and finally love. But, the company has come a long way since first launching these previously unliked shoes, with a design language that is constantly evolving to include new silhouettes to tap into and satisfy current consumer trends. 

In today’s market, you can find wedges, slip-ons, sandals, flats, boots, sneakers, and Mary Janes, all available in a wide variety of colors and designs. Furthermore, you can purchase them in three distinct fits: standard, relaxed, and roomy, and many of the clogs and slip-on designs can be found with comfortable and cozy lining. 

Collaborations

Since 2017, Crocs has released many limited edition Crocs designs in collaboration with some of the biggest names in fashion and pop culture, including Balenciaga, KFC, Disney, and the rock band Kiss. Many of these limited edition Crocs can be found on reselling platforms going for thousands of dollars. 

This clever, luxury model is one of the defining factors that turned the company’s fortunes, allowing it to gain mainstream appeal quickly. In 2019, the company set records, crossing the billion-dollar revenue mark for the first time, selling a mammoth 67 million pairs of shoes across the globe.

Thanks to these collaborations and clever marketing projects, it was finally able to crack the fashion work and the Gen Z market by the end of 2019. The following year, it became the 12th most popular footwear brand amongst teens. 

Keeping Up With Trends

Many fashion experts believe that a large contributing factor to the quick rise of Crocs in recent years was their ability to market themselves effectively when the stigma of comfort dressing all but disappeared during the global pandemic and worldwide shutdown. When the wardrobe slowly changed to include more comfortable clothing and less designer pieces, this shift naturally extended to fuss-free footwear. 

In 2022, the term ‘dopamine dressing’ started to gain a lot of momentum, a trend that placed significant emphasis on dressing in vibrant colors and bold patterns to boost one’s mood. You will struggle to find footwear with brighter, more happiness-inducing qualities than a pair of Crocs emblazed with silly mismatched Jibbitz.
