The electoral campaign in Madagascar has barely begun but the process is already strongly criticized by opponents and civil society. Media recently revealed that the outgoing president Rajoelina is a French citizen. According to the law he should lose his Malagasy nationality and be banned from running for president. But he was allowed to by High Constitutional Court. The President of the Senate who is supposed to be acting president of the Republic declined for “personal reasons” which led the Court to give power to the government, an unprecedented situation, opening the way to a political crisis
