Earthborn Paints Review: Using Blue in a Child’s Bedroom

Choosing the blues

So now for the fun part. How did we choose our shades of blue?

My daughter’s room is quite dark naturally and has one wall of very cute dark blue wallpaper with animals which we wanted to keep. We found several shades of Earthborn blues which would complement the wallpaper. It was very hard to choose!

Eventually, we decided on two colours, Teacup which is a very light blue, pale and bright with a slight grey to it. This is a very ‘grownup’ classic colour.

Secondly we chose Polka Dot, which I am a little in love with, I may have to use it again in another area of the house! This is a Wedgewood blue and quite chalky. A very sophisticated yet versatile shade. I can see it working well in a kitchen or sitting room.

We chose the Lifestyle finish which suits a child’s bedroom as it’s hard-wearing and low-sheen.

If you are unsure of any colours you can try a sample pot first to help you decide on the right shade for you.

Design

If you’re planning on painting each wall all over in one colour it should be quite straightforward. However, we are never ones to go for the easy route!

My daughter really wanted a half wall design also known as a two-tone wall. These can be a creative and appealing choice if you can’t decide on one shade.

Painting a half wall creates a visually interesting focal point in a room. It breaks up the monotony of a single wall colour and adds depth and dimension to the space.

I used a laser level so I could easily get the half way line around the wall. It was quite a fun tool to use! I would invest in one of these, as it makes your job much quicker and easier.

For us, painting the upper half a light colour makes the room appear brighter but you still have the option for a deeper, darker colour on the lower half. The lighter colour reflects more light and makes the space feel more open and spacious.

You can also use a half-wall paint design to visually separate different areas within a larger room. This could work well in an open-plan living space.

As a parent I can see that with a two-tone wall, you can easily touch up or repaint a smaller area if there are any scuffs, marks, or stains, instead of having to repaint the entire wall.
