Luis Enrique is giving all the money raised from subscriptions to his stream on Twitch to a children’s hospice project in Barcelona.

The Spain coach who lost his own daughter to bone cancer in 2019 made the announcement on the eve of Tuesday’s last-16 meeting with Morocco.

He told listeners: ‘You should know that I’ve been in contact with Twitch because I see that they have a part dedicated to donations so that all the money raised can go to the Enriqueta Villavecchia Foundation towards its project ‘Pabellon de la Victoria’ that will care for seriously ill children and their families, in the most difficult moments.’

The Spain boss has just under 800,000 followers, over 5,000 of them paying subscribers

Luis Enrique’s daughter Xana died aged nine in 2019 after a five-month illness. The Spain coach appears on the Enriqueta Villavecchia Foundation’s website promoting the raising of funds for the creation of the hospice saying: ‘We should care for the children who have serious illnesses that cannot be cured. They need a special sort of care, company, and above all the feeling that they can still be children.’

Luis Enrique vowed to stream during Spain’s World Cup campaign and he has just under 800,000 followers, over 5,000 of them paying subscribers. His transmissions through the tournament have averaged around 100,000 users and he has touched on topics as wide ranging on whether players should be allowed to have sex before games as to how many eggs he incorporates into his diet.

After announcing his commitment to supporting the children’s hospice project one user commented: ‘I wouldn’t give Cataluyna anything’. Cataluyna is the semi-autonomous region of Spain where the centre will be based.

Luis Enrique replied: ‘Well if you think that a person, because they are born somewhere else, or speak differently, or speak two languages, you don’t want to give your money, well fantastic, I’d rather you didn’t give. If someone thinks they are better than someone else because of where they were born I prefer that you don’t give us your money.’
