NBCUniversal has ordered Inspiration Station Africa, DreamWorks’ first live-action series set in South Africa.
Aimed at kids ages six to 12, the series (six x 22 minutes) is hosted by two boys, Tanaka and Aaron, who discuss topical issues with other children from Johannesburg and Cape Town. The hosts will also explore the stories behind award-winning DreamWorks Animation series and films. Inspiration Station Africa will premiere in January 2023, with a new episode airing weekly on the Universal+ SVOD in Latin America and on the DreamWorks channel available via African broadcaster DStv.
In March, DreamWorks began broadcasting its content in Africa on DStv, including animated series The Adventures of Puss in Boots, Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Fate, The Boss Baby: Back in Business and Dragons: Race to the Edge. DStv now also carries DreamWorks’ preschool block, DreamWorks Junior, which includes animated series such as Dragons Rescue Riders and Noddy Toyland Detective.
NBCUniversal, which owns DreamWorks, has been focusing this year on the channel’s expansion. Last month, it partnered with French Telecom SFR to launch the DreamWorks channel in France, and earlier this year it launched in Mexico, Chile and Brazil. The channel is available in 43 territories, reaching a cumulative audience of 35 million viewers, according to a press release.
