The regulator those who have purchased the defected batteries to contact the supplier Intertrading by email on [email protected] for a copy of the warning information, but also included a list of potential hazards.

“If young children gain access to button batteries and ingest them, they are likely to suffer severe internal burn injuries, which can result in serious injury or death,” the ACCC said.“Button batteries also pose a choking hazard to young children.

“Many children’s toys are powered by or use button batteries to produce light and sound effects, including plush toys, toy cars, digital pets, early learning watches, light-up yo-yos, games, novelty items and singing Santas.

“In Australia, one child a month is seriously injured after swallowing or inserting a button battery, with some of them sustaining lifelong injuries. In Australia and globally, there is a growing record of injuries and deaths from button batteries.”

The defected batteries were sold between 22 June and 18 October at Choice the Discount Store in Warwick, Kallangur, and Rothwell in QLD, and Tweed Heads in NSW, Marvell International in Homebush NSW, P&O Distributors in Campbellfield in Victoria, and in Budget Gifts & Varieties.

For further information, consumers can contact Intertrading on 02 4648 5400 or by email at [email protected].
