MILWAUKEE — A group of Green Bay Packers rookies spent some time putting smiles on the faces of kids at Children’s Wisconsin Tuesday.
As part of the organization’s Packers vs. Cancer initiative, linebacker Quay Walker, wide receiver Romeo Doubs, defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt and offensive lineman Zach Tom played games and put together some crafts with kids and families at the Milwaukee hospital’s Child Life Center. A group of kids from the MACC Fund Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders also had the opportunity to join in on the fun through Zoom.
The players also took pictures and signed autographs for the kids.
“When kids are dealing with illness, they welcome a break from treatment to have the opportunity to see players from some of their favorite teams. We are so thankful for the Packers’ partnership and all they do to help kids and families in our community,” Christine Baranoucky of Children’s Wisconsin said in a statement from the hospital.
The team has a number of events and fundraising efforts planned through October as part of the Packers vs. Cancer program. That includes a Packers vs. Cancer hat being sold at the Packers Pro Shop, with $5 of every sale going toward the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation.
The team also plans to recognize cancer survivors and those fighting cancer at Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, which is airing on WISC-TV. Fans in attendance at Sunday’s game will also receive a Packers vs. Cancer jersey towel.
