“The siting of a multi-use games area will complement the existing informal grass football pitch on the playing field. The intention is also to remove the old play area and provide a modern play area of a similar size however relocate it away from existing houses to a level and accessible area of the playing field.
“The recreation ground is approximately 11 acres of public open space and used predominantly for informal recreation such as dog walking, informal football on the level grass area, facilitated by a single permanent goal, and use of the existing play area. It is adjacent to the M65 motorway
“To enhance the recreation ground’s offering as a local amenity for families in the area and to complement the existing features, a multi-use games area is proposed to provide opportunities for a wide range of ball sports including football, netball, cricket and basketball. This facility will be maintained by Hyndburn Borough Council and subject to regular inspections.
“The existing children’s play area, which is 24 years old and beyond its serviceable life, is to be removed and replaced in a more appropriate location away from houses on the west. The modern play area will be provided for children from the ages of three to 12 years and has been designed following consultation with local children and families living in the area.
“The proposed ballcourt will be 20 metres by 30 metres with green rebound panels and brown posts, with goals and basketball hoops at two ends. The children’s play area will consist of a range of playground equipment, which have been selected through public consultation with the local primary school and local families.
“The play area and MUGA will be located on a level area of the recreation ground and access will be from the pavement running along side Stanhill Road.”
